Correlation between gender equality and the level of competitiveness, GDP per capita and human development

The Global Gender Gap Report 2012 benchmarks national gender gaps of 135 countries on economic, political, education- and health-based criteria. About 2 minutes into the 3 minute video embedded below as well as on pages 29-31 of the global gender gap report 2012, I learned that there is a correlation between gender equality and the level of competitiveness, GDP per capita and human development.
